Buddy programme
Dear new international Master’s students from DNB, MLS and CoBi,
We would like to inform you that we have a Buddy-programme at our faculty. This means you have the opportunity to be assigned to a senior student, who will help you with problems you might face during your start in Göttingen (i.e. Registration at the town hall, bank account, insurances, Course registration/FlexNow/StudIP). The Buddies are usually available in October and November. If you would like to have a Buddy, you may inform us via mail (studienbuero@biologie.uni-goettingen.de). With your request you give us the permission to give your mail-address to your buddy so he/she can get in contact with you.
I would also like to point out that “Göttingen International” offers a Welcome week in September 2025.
More helpful information for international students is provided here: https://www.uni-goettingen.de/en/627445.html
Yours sincerely,
Bettina and Christina

New key competence offer “Interdisciplinary Neuroscience”
UMG lecturers are opening up the elective module Interdisciplinary Neuroscience from the field of medicine to biology students with an interest in (medical) neuroscience topics. Prior basic knowledge in the field of neuroscience/neurobiology is recommended. The course is held in English with some German-language components (patient consultations) and, upon successful completion, can be recognized with 4 ECTS credits in the key competence area.
Details of the course content, registration and schedule (PDF).
Update: There seem to be some issues with registering for the event in StudIP right now. If you can’t register yourself, just email Mr. Bartl, and he’ll add you to the event manually.
Summer Break in the Office of Studies
Due to the end of lectures and school vacations, the Study Advisory Office and the Examination Office are taking a summer break. Therefore, in connection with office hours and availability, please note the absence times of the individual persons on the websites of the Study Advisory Office and the Examination Office.
The Infopoint will be closed in August. In the period from September to the start of the lecture period (27th October), it will only be open on Mondays (detailed absences can be found on the website of the Study Advisory Office).
Changes consultation hour DNB/MLS
The offer of consultation DNB and MLS will change to open consultation hours as of July. Mind the information on the webpage of Office of Studies including the periods of absence during summer.
Office hours are cancelled when out of office.
The change was made because students often did not turn up for the booked appointments (or cancelled shortly beforehand), which led to frustration and more planning effort on all sides. Hoping, that open consultation hours will support your studies with more flexibility.
MLS core modules in winter term: new 5-week-block structure!
The MLS core modules of winter term will be restructured starting next winter term 2025/2026. They will be in future offered as 5-week-block courses (including all lectures, seminar sessions/tutorials and practical parts).
The new schedule as overview is published on our webpage.
Mind: The MLS summer term core modules stick to the structure of past years, having lecture and seminar during the semester and practical parts as 3-week-blocks.
