Study projects available at Affenberg Salem

The Department Behavioral Ecology offers bachelor’s and master’s students the opportunity to conduct research projects as part of their studies, including bachelor theses, master theses and lab rotations. These projects involve collecting behavioral data of semi-free-ranging Barbary macaques.

The projects take place at Affenberg Salem, a monkey park located near Lake Constance in southern Germany. The research focuses on social behavior and ties into a larger PhD project exploring emotional contagion in social interactions. Students will gain hands-on experience observing monkeys and collecting behavioral data. The specifics of each project can be tailored to individual interests and discussed in detail. Study projects can be realized within either of two field seasons: April – June or September – November. Transportation to and accommodation at the Affenberg will likely be provided by the University.
