Call for applications for Master’s internship and/or thesis: Extracellular vesicles biomarkers in Parkinson’s disease

There are opportunities for Master’s internships and/or thesis in Prof. Brit Mollenhauer’s group of translational biomarker research in Parkinson’s disease and related movement disorders, aiming to enable earlier diagnosis, improve differential diagnosis, and better track disease progression. In recent years, a key focus has also been identifying at-risk individuals before clinical manifestation.

Start: September/October 2026 (flexible; other dates welcome – please reach out even if you prefer a different start time).

Format options: lab rotation/internship with the option to continue as a Master’s thesis, or a standalone Master’s thesis.

Project title: Extracellular vesicles as a cell-type-specific source of biomarkers in Parkinson’s disease Methods may include: Extracellular vesicles isolation (plasma and/or cell culture medium), nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA), immunoprecipitation, western blotting, basic proteomics data analysis (project-dependent), plus protocol documentation and data evaluation.

Target group: Master’s students with prior wet-lab experience (preferably molecular biology/biochemistry, but not required) and interest in biomarkers/neurodegeneration.
