The Department of Evolutionary Developmental Genetics is looking for a student assistant (f/m/d) in October and November 2026 with 40 hours per month to support research in the area of insect brain development and evolution.
Application deadline: August 31, 2026
Single cell sequencing is a novel technique, where transcriptomes of single cells can be determined. We apply that method to compare homologous neurons between flies and beetles.
For this purpose, prepared brains from the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster and the red flour beetle Tribolium castaneum are required to analyze neuronal cells at the single-nuclei level using single-nuclei RNA sequencing. Many brains need to be cleanly prepared for subsequent dissociation into single nuclei.
We would be very happy to involve you in that work if you have:
- very steady hands for preparations of tiny brains
The appointment should start on October 1, 2026 and is limited until November 30, 2026. The number of hours is 40 hours per month.
The remuneration is based on the applicable regulations for student assistants (MSc or BSc). The activity begins on October 1, 2026. We would like to have a previous trial work to make sure that the brain preparations suit you.
We are an international and collaborative lab. In case of interest the work can be extended in form of a rotation or thesis.
Please send me a brief mail until August 31, 2026 with information on your study programme and semester.
I am looking forward to your application!
